Horrible Dare Challenge 2010!!!

Some of you may recall this happy character:

from last summer when TY and I dared each other to read some Horrible Books.  There was incest!  And plotting!  And babysitting!  And more incest!  (Surriously, there was a lot of incest.)

Pukey the Unicorn is back, along with his pal, the Lounging Mer-Pire, to barrage us with purple prose.

And whereas last summer TY and I each came up with a different list for each other, we've spent the last year threatening each other with books and now we have the same list.  Brace yourself.

The Horrible List of Horror!  *ominous violins, thunder*

LA Candy - Lauren Conrad:  You may not watch The Hills.  *I* don't watch The Hills.  But I'mma go out on a limb and say that LC got this book deal specifically because she was on The Hills, and that it is therefore probably terrible.  Which is really the only prereq for the HDC.

Hush, Hush - Becca Fitzpatrick:  This Here-Comes-Another-One paranormal romance seems like just the kind of thing we'll hate.  TSTL protagonists, bad-boy love interests, raving teenage fans.  You think it can't get worse than Twilight, but you're wrong.

Shiver - Maggie Stiefvater:  Uh...ditto?  Only with werewolves, not angels.

So that's it.  Short but deadly.  Can you stomach it, TY?  Have you balls enough?  All three books must be read and reviewed before the end of the summer (i.e. Sept 21, 2010).  Failure to do so will result in ridicule and finger-pointing.

Also, for bonus marks, I will make you one of my patented MS Paint buttons if you read anything by Danielle Steele.  The button will have to do with balls, and they will be brass.

Vive l'horreur!

  1. I read the first chapter of Shiver and then promptly took it back to the library. Why did I think it was a graphic novel? Why did I think it was supposed to be really good? When did Goodreads become overwhelmed with 14-year-old girls?

  3. Ooo, I'm so excited! I much look forward to reading the agonized reviews.

    Danielle Steel?! That's just cruel.

  4. Okay, as a young middle school girl, I devoured Danielle Steel books, and Harlequin romances. LOL! Boy, have my reading tastes changed.

Oh, how love the art work for this...unicorn spewing out a rainbow from disgust. Genius!

  5. The really sick and twisted thing is that I read everything Danielle Steele wrote up until I was in college. I should be freaking shot.

On another note, love the puking Unicorn. Reminds me of the very popular Charlie the Unicorn videos on Youtube. Have you seen them? You've got to watch one or two.

  7. Oooh, no can do. I will never, ever pick up another Danielle Steel. Reading her books is painful.

  8. Worse than Twilight??? Impossible!

Okay, you've piqued my interest. But you know what they say: curiosity killed the cat.

  9. It is wrong how much I love those buttons?

The only thing wrong with this challenge (and the only thing stopping me from joining) is that I'm unwilling to pay money for any of these books. But if I can get them from the library for no cost and complete them by the deadline, I would love to participate.

  13. Hush, Hush is quite possibly one of THE worst books I have ever read. BLAH. And Shiver, I really really tried to like it, really. But... meh.

Great list, can't wait to follow along.
