About the Raych

The Done Read is all about the three H's: Honesty, Hilarity, and H'mad relatives.  I grade things in caterpillars because sometimes when you are starting a blog that you're sure no one will read, you operate with less 'thinking' and more 'whatever, this'll do.'

This is my sandbox. I'm delighted to have you play here, but if you don't like the way we play here you are very welcome to leave.

Since honesty is my best policy, you may say vicious things about books I love as long as you mean those things. You may also say gushy things about books that I hate (see above re: meaning it). You cannot say vicious things about my friends - that's sort of my only rule.

You are more than welcome to offer me books.  Being e-readerless, I can't accept any e-books, unless you also want to offer me an e-reader.  I have an e-reader now, so bombs away.  I will almost probably definitely review a hard copy, but giving me an e-book is like throwing spaghetti at a wall.  I believe the technical term is 'for consideration for a review.'

I want to love All The Books.

The title of this blog has had me giggling off and on for the last 10 minutes. Love it! I'm on my way now to wander through the books you've read. If I disagree with any of your analyses, I'll restrict my comment to subtle violence. ;)

You done good!

As a librarian, I trip over a lot of blogs, and most of them stink. But a librarian-friend (we're a cult, really) sent me a link to your sandbox and I am loving it! Laughing like a madwoman, making the nice patrons a little afraid.

And that is a gift unto itself.

hey Raych, yours is a gem of blogging, ran into it looking for a decent piece to give to my student for stylistic analysis. I had to read lots of classic boring or plain hateful and gross things at school. Happy to see there are people who done it as well)) Love your writings!

You know you don't actually need to own an e-reader to read ebooks, right? ;) You can download Kindle for PC and read them from your screen. Of course, whether that is something that appeals to you is another matter. :P

Love your book list on the left. Good to see some rigor there. Not that you need any more rec's (sheesh, you read a lot of books) but you've got some of my favs over there and so I can't resist. T

he Hotel New Hampshire and A Prayer for Owen Meany are my two favorite John Irving books. He's got a thing for Canada, especially in A Prayer. Both books hilarious and heartbreaking. (possibly my favorite combo)

Updike's "A and P" was the first story I ever read as an English major that I liked. I wrote a grocery store story after that one called "Ye Olde Trading Post." It is in my next book, entitled Horseshoe.

My fav Boyle is World's End. Loved King's On Writing, and he's got a short story "Secret Garden, Secret Window," that I recommend. If you like Johnny Depp (my wife does / amazing some women don't?!!) then the film version is very good too.

I'm trying to pay you enough attention that you'll peek inside my book out now, Love on the Big Screen. :)

I have been following your blog since I started mine (The Book is Always Better Than the Film) and it is great: by turns fun, intelligent, flip and snarky. I find stuff I could not agree with more (like review of In The Woods) and stuff I agree with not at all (If on a Winter's Night ...) I will enjoy it and raid it for new stuff to read. Thank you. And if you want to check out another book blog ...
